A system where signal indications are displayed to the driver in his cab, usually from a trackside induction system. Cab signals may either augment existing lineside signals or replace them. Cab signalling is usually used in conjunction with some sort of automatic protection system which prevents a driver allowing his train to enter an occupied section or exceeding a predetermined safe speed.
