<ow:body>A means of transmitting power from the bogie to the body of a locomotive. The traction link usually consists of a steel bar attached at one end to the bogie frame and at the other end to the underframe of the locomotive. Both ends are fitted with rubber damping to reduce transmission of vibration. The purpose of the bar is to remove the stress of traction forces from the central pivot of the bogie and to reduce weight transfer. Traction links are relatively new on locomotives, having appeared over the last fifteen years or so. Prior to this, power transmission was through a central pivot in the bogie. </ow:body>
